Day 1 - Oceans of Yellow

Lots of driving was the theme of the day but nobody seemed to mind.


We were off by 8:15 after Glen saying we should be on the road by 7:30. I think he was the one we were all waiting for! The first stop was Brandon and of course Tim Horten's. Once we were fed and watered and our car door had been dented in by an angry dad, (mad at his own kids, not ours - I really just wanted to tell him to breathe), we carried on through the flatness that makes our province so beautiful. 


The canola fields were oceans of yellow against the blue sky and off in the distance we could see the flax starting to take on that lovely periwinkle blue.

We stopped just after crossing the Saskatchewan border so we could take pictures of the girls by the big sign. We gained an hour at that point so we decided to add on another hour of driving. At Indian Head, we stopped at the little tourist info office and played frisbee and football. We also took a photo of the sign recognizing Little Mosque on the Prairie being filmed there. Who knew?! We turned off the highway and headed down into the Qu'Appelle Valley. a lovely drive around the lake brought us to a beach and the first of many picnics of our holiday. We watched boats being launched into the lake and enjoyed the warm weather with no bugs!

Onward to Moose Jaw and stormy clouds around us. We found the hotel with no problem and unloaded. The girls were great about helping unload the bags and get everything to the room. Tinsley and I went to do a workout while Glen took the other three girls geocaching. This was Chloé's first time treasure hunting and they were able to find two caches! When they came back to the hotel, we all piled back into the van for some shopping at Superstore. Dinner was at Smitty's and then back to the hotel for showers. Everyone is sleepy tonight. Funny how that happens when you haven't really done much!




We lost our tv signal due to thunder and lightening all around us so we planned the next couple of days. Keeping our fingers crossed the weather cooperates as we venture into the Canadian Badlands and Dinosaur Provincial Park!
