Day 7 - 35 C

The Three Sisters (Mountain Range & Douglas)

Today dawned hot and sunny. We slowly loaded up the van - it seemed none of us really wanted to leave this great place! Glen and I left the girls sunning by the pool as we checked out and went for a walk around the property. The girls reluctantly got into the van but we promised them a stop at Tim Horton's. A quick stop to take a picture of the Three Sisters Mountain range and we were on our way.

We made our way around Banff and then carried on toward The Continental Divide. The mountain ranges subtly changed but were just as beautiful as what we had been seeing for the last few days. We took a picture with the girls half in Alberta and half in British Columbia. Strange! A quick stop in Invermere for gas and we were driving again.

We finally stopped at a roadside rest area overlooking Columbia Lake around 2:00 for lunch and it was really hot. The van said it was 35 degrees! There was a nice breeze though so it seemed comfortable. We had been following the Kootenay Hwy south all afternoon, which this Lake is a part of a long network of lakes and rivers.

Thought this might make a nice shot!

On to the Raging Elk Hostel in Fernie, BC. it wasn't too busy and as usual we found all the people we talked to to be very friendly. We ended up having a 10 person room for just the six of us so we were able to spread out. We walked around the historic downtown but we all seemed to dragging our feet. (Maybe still feeling the effects from yesterday's hike although no one felt sore.)

Dinner was pasta in the Hostel's communal kitchen and while Glen and I cooked, the girls discovered foosball! Lots of laughing with that game!

After dinner we drove around some back roads hoping to spot wildlife. Although there were signs saying there has been a lot of bear activity, we didn't see a thing. The smell of the pine trees and the singing birds was amazing though and we did enjoy that.
Back to the hostel and the girls all showered before heading off to bed.
