We stopped in the little prairie town of Herbert when we spotted some picnic tables. The wind was blowing very strongly but we persevered! The tables were right beside a little railway museum so we had a look in there. Mairin tried out a telegraph machine and we checked out the stamps for the passenger tickets east and west of Herbert. A tiny little town with not much to offer now but it once was a main depot for farmers dropping off all different kinds of grain.
We arrived at our beautiful bed and breakfast in Moose Jaw and were greeted by the owners John and Lois. The home was wonderfully old (1902), with lots of character and history. We had a quick look at our rooms and then went into the downtown to do the Tunnels of Moose Jaw tour. We went on the "Chicago Connection" tour which was all about Al Capone and his possible connections to Moose Jaw during prohibition. The rail line ran straight from this town down to Minneapolis and then on to Chicago. We were all supposed to be bootleggers who had come to Miss Fanny's club to purchase liquor. Miss Fanny and Gus were skimming off of Capone's liquor production. It was a fun tour and we were taken through some of the underground tunnels of the town.
Dinner was at Hickory Smokehouse and it was really good. Chloé said she can never have a hamburger at McDonald's again after eating a burger from this place as it was so good! We tried a few geocaches but the grass was long and the hills steep and we didn't have on proper footwear. :(
Back to Wackamow Heights House where everyone enjoyed their rooms and just relaxed. Mairin was with us in our room and she snuggled down into her daybed and watched tv. We found a canadian food show which featured a restaurant in Winnipeg - Boon Burger. Looks like we must try there!
Good night. Jenn

Hello Everybody,
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice travel you did. I was filled of admiration by the beauty of the lanscape. Chloé was very impressed by the sizes of the real bear you saw a few days ago. But I think that her best memory will be the burger she ate during the diner at Hickory Smokehouse (each time we can speak to her with the Ipod, she tells us that the taste and the size of her burger was amazing).
For Chloé or Tinsley: I gave the address of this blog to my friends at the shop "La Boutique des Stars".They were very pleased to have good news from Chloé and from Tinsley. They say "Hello" to both of you.
Bye
